GOLLUM release 'The Core'

Wilmington, North Carolina eclectic metallers GOLLUM unleash latest full-length 'The Core' on Rotten Records! Recorded in Wilmington, NC at Umbilical Studios by guitarist Frank Stroehmer and mastered by Today Is The Day frontman Steve Austin at Austin Enterprise in Nashville, TN, 'The Core' is dedicated to the memory of drummer Hunter Holland who died suddenly of heart failure just a short time after completing the drum tracks to the new record. "You helped lay the foundation and blueprint, then you left us with a gift," writes the band on their official MySpace page. "We will never forget. Thank you for the inspiration you have given each of us. Your beat goes on and forever with us you shall be."

Guest appearances on 'The Core' include the return of D. Randall Blythe and Dave "Dixie" Collins (who both appeared on the band's stellar 2004 'Lesser Traveled Waters') as well as Scott Angelacos of Hope & Suicide, the angelic vocal work of Cassie Sipe and Dr. George Zervos, professor of Religion/Philosophy at UNCW.

What the press is saying:

"...music this different that's able to fire on all cylinders is the equivalent of expanding ones mind without the drugs." -- Way Too Loud

"...an incredible album full of hauntingly exotic metal tunes and outright death metal bludgeon." -- Away-Team

"This album is a brutal metal experience similar to something you might hear from Mastodon, possibly Isis, but then take those sounds and fly warp speed so far left of center that you're fluttering around in your own dimension. Mixed with the traditional metal guitar tones and rhythmic soundings, we have Gollum experimenting with bizarre song structures and seemingly random mood swings that create a truly wondrous listening experience. " -- Ripple Effect

"While it certainly falls into the metal category, the band throws everything from vintage thrash riffs, sludge filled doom riffs and vicious vocal snarls at the listener and they make it work perfectly. Think early Megadeth meets Eyehategod..." -- Unbound

The band is currently gearing up for a series of live dates, with more to be added soon.
