FISTULA (Northern Aggression) 12" EP/CD

Feb/26/2013

Not only the cover design of the latest FISTULA looks like a hardcore punk record from the 1980s, but also the songs show certain similarities to this kind of music. Well, sludge and hardcore were always closely related, so that FISTULA do not start a musical revolution here...

FALL OF THE IDOLS (Solemn Verses) CD

Feb/19/2013

Maybe I am biased on this band a little, but to me - when it comes to this really slow side of Doom - Fall Of The Idols is still amongst the best. Perhaps the best damn band in Europe to pace through songs like a snail...

FUZZ MANTA (Vortex Memplex) LP/CD

Dec/12/2012

'Vortex Memplex' is now the third album by Denmark's FUZZ MANTA who prove once again that they are still a group to be reckoned with. The band is in fine shape on their new album which appears to me like the natural evolution of the previous effort 'Opus II' (review here)...

FUZZ MANTA (Opus II) LP/CD

Sep/09/2011

FUZZ MANTA belongs to the sort of heavy rock bands which makes one forget that we live in the year 2011. While listening to the band's second album 'Opus II', it does rather seem as if it's still 1972...

FREEDOM HAWK (Holding On) CD

Aug/10/2011

It is almost impossible to write a review about FREEDOM HAWK without mentioning Ozzy Osbourne. This is due primarily to the lead vocals of guitarist T...

FIREBIRD (Double Diamond) LP/CD

Mar/01/2011

FIREBIRD return with the best album in their career, and I mean this very seriously. The times of early 1970's blues rock are almost gone, or to be more precise, it plays a subordinate role on the new record...

F.T.W. (A Tribute To Gideon Smith) CD

Dec/10/2010

Not everyone deserves a tribute compilation but for sure Gideon Smith. Why? Quite simply because he's not only a gifted musician and songwriter but also a very good author...

FISTULA (Goat) CD

Sep/07/2010

Welcome to the darker and unpleasant side of spending life in the city! With 'Goat', Ohio's FISTULA definitely have now reached a new level of poorly digestible and unbelievably filthy sludge. It is astonishing how they manage over and over again to reinvent their heavy sound with the effect that each new release is more brutal and more uncompromising than the previous one...

FLUTWACHT (Herbstrost) CD

Jan/08/2010

It is once again time to enter the world of noise/industrial and this time it's one of the latest albums from Germany's FLUTWACHT, released by the excellent Japanese experimental label Deserted Factory. FLUTWACHT is the solo project of Daniel Simon, who managed to create a rich and varied body of work and I must admit that I have lost count of the number of his releases...

FORSAKEN (After The Fall) CD

Jun/22/2009

Astonishingly enough, one of the best epic doom metal albums in 2009 comes from the small Republic of Malta or more specifically from FORSAKEN. This Maltese band is no newcomer and a fairly well-known name in international doom metal circles...
