UNEARTHLY TRANCE

Apr/28/2004

I've become a fan of UNEARTHLY TRANCE, since I've listen to their 7", that was released in the Southern Lord singles club. After that I received the "Hadit" CD-EP, and although I dig the single the EP was much better and shows the full-potential of this exciting three-piece...

TEETH OF LIONS RULE THE DIVINE

Apr/28/2004

What can you expect when musicians as Greg Anderson, Lee Dorrian, Steve O'Malley and Justin Greaves are forming a musical project? Right, maximum heaviness with a deep droning and a brutal devastating intensity. Named after an EARTH track, TOLRTD are presenting us three sinister and angry tracks on the debut "Rampton", and when I tell you that the album is 55 minutes + long, than you maybe know what I mean...

RWAKE

Apr/28/2004

RWAKE aren't your typical Sludge-band, with all the typical trademarks of the genre. This five-piece have proven on their second album "Hell Is A Door To The Sun", that you don't need to come-up with the next brainless Grief or EHG clone...

GILLA BRUJA

Apr/28/2004

First off, GILLA BRUJA aren't a new heavy doom band. Of course, they are heavy but they've integrated more grind and industrial elements in their crushing songs...

DIXIE WITCH

Apr/26/2004

I can't really describe with words how much the DIXIE WITCH debut "Into The Sun" on Brainticket Records means to some members of the Lava-crew. It's filled with honest lyrical passion, and soundwise, it knows to appeal with a finest blend of 70's Hardrock, old Southern-Rock and a bit of Doom...

PELICAN

Apr/23/2004

Since I've started with the webzine I received a lot of unsigned music from very unknown bands. Some of this underground releases are just boring and average, and there's really no need in releasing them to a bigger audience...

SEA OF GREEN

Apr/23/2004

Canada, the land of lakes and endless forests. ...

EARTHRIDE

Apr/23/2004

Once again, it's time to present another exciting band from Maryland. Since over 30 years the MD/DC area is a source for authentic heavy music...

PLACE OF SKULLS

Apr/22/2004

If you're a fellow reader of the Cosmic Lava, then you'll have noticed the name PLACE OF SKULLS. When you take a look at the line-up you'll find two names, that are well-known to everyone who's into the history of Pentagram/Death Row...

BEATEN BACK TO PURE

Apr/22/2004

BEATEN BACK TO PURE`s debut "Southern Apocalypse" is such an incredible hard-hitting sludgy debut, but in opposite to other bands in this genre this band got a more melodic and metallic sound without losing its intense brutality. On top there's a small southern rock influence and the incredible hard vocals of Ben and all that was reason enough for me to start an interview with him about music, hate, anger, blood, the Confederate flag and more...
