Record Reviews

A5TRO5ONIQ (Son Of A.P. Lady) CD

Jul/21/2004

This is no easy review for me, because on one side I'm very impressed from this very very low and dirty sound from this Dutch band, but on the other side I've got my problems with some vocal-parts and songs, especially when they sound like the SMASHING PUMPKINS, but that's my personal opinion. They use a lot of keyboards in their songs, but more in a effective Space Rock way...

THAT'S ALL FOLKS! (Psyche As One Of The Fine Arts) LP/CD

Jul/21/2004

After the debut release "Soma. ...

TERRA FIRMA (Harms Way) CD

Jul/21/2004

The second full-length from Swedens TERRA FIRMA and to make it short, it's a great step forward. The first album, released in 1998 contains good songs, but the whole production was not very powerful and so I was always a little bit dissapointed of it...

TEETH OF LIONS RULE THE DIVINE (Rampton) CD

Jul/21/2004

Since I've heard the first time about this project of Justin Greaves (Iron Monkey/Hard To Swallow), Greg Anderson, Steve O'Malley and Lee Dorrian I know that the result won't be the typical heavy doom stuff. TOLRTD aren't abstract as Khanate or Sunn O)))...

SUPERSHINE (s/t) CD

Jul/21/2004

After LID and WET ANIMAL, the next musical sign of life from ex-members of TROUBLE. There were some rumours about the line-up of this project ,but this ends now with the debut from SUPERSHINE...

SUNRIDE (The Great Infiltration) CD/LP

Jul/21/2004

Finland's heavy underground seems to grow stronger during the last years. Doom bands like Reverend Bizarre or Minotauri or heavy sludge rockers Fleshpress and not to forget the thunderous heavy Rock of Plutonium Orange just to mention only a few...

SUNN 0))) (00 Void) CD/2LP

Jul/21/2004

"Power Ambient Drone" is the self-description of their music and it fits! Four songs in 60 minutes show you that SUNN 0))) are playing no ordinary heavy-stuff. They follow the footsteps of EARTH(not the later records) with one difference...

STONER KINGS (Brimstone Blues) CD/LP

Jul/21/2004

Due to the name, I've expected some kind of worse "desert" rock or the next Kyuss clone. Gladly, I was wrong...

STINKING LIZAVETA (Slaughterhouse) CD

Jul/21/2004

This isn't the newest album of this all-instrumental Philadelphia power trio, but it's still worth to be reviewed and presented here. Maybe some would call this group a progressive rock band, but there's much more in their music...

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS (On Fire) CD

Jul/21/2004

My expectations on the new album were really high, because Janne of Grand Magus is now part of the line-up, after former vocalist and bass-player Spice left the band. And I was a bit fed-up with the old sound of the Beggars...
