The film’s dark cinematic aesthetic was inspired by the atmosphere of OXBOW’s recent work. It echoes its title and is interlaced with live performances and candid interviews in which the band peel away layers of their processes and which bring the viewer as close as it’s possible to get to a band without being in it. The new hymns were constructed at Soundhouse Studios in SAMOTHRACE's hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) at the turn of the year, then mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea), the finishing touches are being put on the follow-up to the band's acclaimed 'Life's Trade' debut. Bearing the title 'Reverence To Stone', the LP's two extensive tracks -- 'When We Emerged' and 'A Horse Of Our Own' -- engulf nearly thirty-five minutes, presenting the unit's revered, multi-faceted sludge at its most expansive to date. Although highly respected by his peers and other songwriters, the mood and atmosphere of his music, coupled with his sometimes dark and sarcastic nature, was not suitable for the commercial country-industry of Nashville. Van Zandt’s songs did, however, reach popularity in his day, through artists such as Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Emmylou Harris. Within his circle of outsider singer-songwriters, he was adored, though ultimately it would be depression and alcoholism that would overshadow his life. Townes’ friend, singer Steve Earle, has been quoted as saying, “Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I’ll stand on Bob Dylan’s coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that.” After Townes’ death in 1997, the fact that artists as diverse as Robert Plant, Mudhoney, Norah Jones, Lyle Lovett, and Bob Dylan himself have kept his songs alive and vital, is a testament to the influence and impact of his music. So now do STEVE VON TILL, SCOTT KELLY and WINO stand and sing his tribute, each focusing on the essence of Van Zandt’s music and lyrics in his own personal way. The result is a great homage, whose intensity lies in fragility and elementary human truths. Ride Away New Signing: STEPSON 70s hard rock band Stepson have reached an agreement with Rockadrome's Vintage label to release an album of previously unreleased 70s recordings which have been tucked away in the band's vaults for the last 35 or so years. Stepson was a high energy heavy Detroit style bluesy hard rock band formed by ex-members of the group Touch, known for their excellent 1969 progressive rock album featuring Don Gallucci. Stepson released their sole fuzzed out, hammond filled, attitude laced album in 1974 on the ABC label before disbanding and moving on to studio work and other projects. Rockadrome have acquired 12 tracks to be released on compact disc and vinyl later in 2012.
